American label Proof release their range of eco-conscious eyewear to the UK market. The brand has created a vibrant ten line collection that has strong green credentials as well as a real emphasis on design.
The label has pretty humble beginnings, having been created in a garage in 2010 by three brothers from a small town in Idaho. Fast forward three years and the glasses have been sported by the likes of Beyonce, Macklemore and Snoop Dog (or Lion as he now calls himself) with the frames continuing to grace the pages of many high profile fashion magazines. With this type of pedigree it was only a matter of time before they hit UK shores.
Using a range of sustainably sourced materials such as bamboo, lacewood and ebony the brand’s expert team of designers make use of the different grain patterns to create truly one-of-a-kind frames that offer a contemporary take on a classic silhouettes.
Wooden frames have become a major trend within the eyewear industry this year, with multiple brands experimenting and creating collections with the material. However, Proof are bringing something new to the game by offering a Skateboard collection: sunglasses crafted from reclaimed five-ply maple skateboard decks, which ensures a unique look and composition along with increased durability.
If wooden glasses don’t appeal to you, Proof also have a more conventional range of plastic frames. The ECO (Environmentally Conscious Optics) collection utilises the best plant-based acetate and is 100 percent renewable, biodegradable and hypo-allergenic.
The collection features several highlights, including FashionBeans’ favourite: the Lunar Black Polarised frames.
The Lunar is a slimmer oval silhouette made from a black acetate and feature contrasting wooden arms and a metal proof logo on the temples:
Another pair that merit a mention are the Bird Ebony Gold sunglasses. The Bird design is a slightly oversized flattop style frame that demands attention.
All the wooden frames in the Proof collection are polished and coated with a water/sweat protective layer for added durability:
