Ralph Lauren To Reintroduce Polo Bear Sweater
Last month, Ralph Lauren launched online vintage boutique RL Vintage, a website dedicated to cataloguing and selling a specially curated selection of rare and unusual Ralph Lauren pieces.
One of the most remarkable features of the project is the ‘Bring It Back’ section, in which passionate Ralph Lauren collectors can vote for their favourite iconic and out-of-production pieces from past collections to be relaunched and made available for purchase via the website. This month, the suggestions have been taken into account and the first choice has been announced.
The Ralph Lauren Polo Bear was originally a Steiff teddy bear wearing one of a selection of signature Ralph Lauren looks – based on Lauren’s own personal love of collectible teddies and presented to him as a gift. Lauren was so taken with the present that he made them available to customers; the teddy bears soon becoming as recognisable and sought after as the clothes their outfits were made to replicate.
These teddy bears soon gave way to the jumpers bearing their icon, which was created as an addition to the Polo line in 1991.
Now, after a large period of unavailability, the Polo Bear sweater is set to return. Customers are given the option to vote on their favourite bear to be reintroduced to the RL Vintage line, from four different options. Voting is done via the “Bring It Back” section of rlvintage.com.
Currently, the end of the voting period is yet to be announced, but customers are also given the option to sign up to the email mailing list in order to be kept in the loop concerning all “Bring It Back” products.
