Here at FashionBeans we often preach the same values over and over again: build a capsule wardrobe full of timeless basics; invest in quality; focus on fit, construction and material over passing trends; individualise your look with key accessories and statement pieces.
As any fashion conscious male will be aware, Reiss is a brand that continually produces timeless, refined and versatile menswear in every collection it releases, no matter what the season may be.
With their ability to offer classic wardrobe staples as well as statement pieces, Reiss has become the go-to place on the high street for men who wish to remain effortlessly cool and sophisticated in their appearance. Unlike the majority of high street brands that simply offer ‘fast fashion’ and trend-led pieces to the consumer, Reiss is able to contribute fresh and modern designs that preserve a versatile and timeless quality.
The new SS13 collection is no exception; Reiss is the epitome of the FashionBeans ethos.
Detailing a unique form of inspiration, the Reiss design team explain the influences behind their superb SS13 menswear collection:
“Inspired by Nigel Slater’s cookery book The Kitchen Diaries, our SS13 menswear collection is a prescriptive, month-by-month ‘sartorial menu’ taking you through the four temperate seasons. Expect creative silhouettes, subversive fabrication, amplified colour and impeccable craftsmanship.
Our inspiration might be drawn from what is going on socially and culturally in society; from film and music to literature and art. The Great Gatsby, botanical gardens, globalisation and the French Riviera were just some of our influences this season.”
Working in a summery palette of pastel shades and earthy hues, the new collection boasts fun and easy styling with a sharp sartorial edge. By steering towards cool colour-blocking and bold layering, each look within the accompanying lookbook displays the versatile nature of the separates featured and presents them in their most wearable form.
A nod to wider industry trends is made through the use of candy hues and botanical prints, whilst military influences can also be identified in shirt detailing such as epaulettes and the powerful structuring of silhouettes.
Tailored pieces are relaxed throughout the collection, especially when paired with denim or layered with contrasting hues. Unlined blazers are seasonally appropriate for when the mercury rises, and are complemented by the wide variety of summer fabrics on show – linen, lightweight wools and cotton blends helping you stay cool whilst enabling you to create sharp layered looks, day or night.

In order to help you identify the key pieces you need in your wardrobe from the new SS13 collection, Reiss’ online stylist, Dominic Shearer, has picked out ten of the ‘most wanted’ pieces.
This excellent feature on site includes everything from timeless wardrobe staples such as the leather jacket and navy blazer, to textured pieces in the form of slouchy knits and herringbone shirts, to on trend pieces such as striking orange tees and the polka dot pocket square. It just goes to show that Reiss are capable of filling any glaring hole you currently have within your capsule wardrobe – the perfect mix of classic and contemporary.
The ten key pieces picked out by Dominic can be seen below:
Tailored pieces have been given a splash of colour this season, with many appearing in pastel greens and dusty pinks. These offer a welcome alternative to traditional office wear and will allow you to make an effortless statement at any summer occasion.
For those wanting to truly liven up your look, the green suit is a bold yet wholly wearable option that works well with contrasting browns, pinks or reds. For those that are slightly more conservative, the khaki or brown tailored pieces found within the collection will help inject life into any capsule wardrobe:
No matter what the season’s trends may be, there are certain pieces that every man should have in his summer wardrobe – those pieces that are easy to wear, versatile and effortlessly cool.
These timeless staples appear prominently throughout the lookbook, helping create a wide range of looks that display their true versatility. At the top of your list should be nautical hues, linen separates, crisp whites and tailored shorts. These form the building blocks of most summer outfits, allowing you to neutralise and ground the pops of colour and statement pieces that help mark you out as an individual:
Bold and neon hues are set to become one of the most popular trends for SS13. Although they could be viewed as somewhat difficult to wear, with the right piece the result can be original and fresh.
Zesty greens and bold blues when worn in a refined way, either with contrasting or neutral hues, will enable you to appear on trend and playful whilst maintaining your existing sharp appearance:
With Reiss being renowned for their quality and style, it seems that colour is the driving force behind this collection. Multiple shades are mixed and matched to produce creative, vivid and exciting combinations that are still somehow extremely wearable and refined.
This is statement dressing for the contemporary gentleman; sophisticated, elegant and timeless yet completely individual and full of flair. It’s time to take your capsule wardrobe and your personal style to the next level this season with the help of Reiss and an injection of bold hues.
