One of the final major pieces of news for River Island from 2012, is the announcement of their opening of a flagship store on London’s Oxford Street. Already playing host to the current flagship, this one is going to bring the retail experience into a whole new dimension.
The outlet will span a colossal 28,000 square feet, divided between three floors. Situated at Park House, which already plays host to some considerable amount of other leading international high-street retailers, there’s no doubt this acquisition is a wise move. Set to open in June, prepare to have your sartorial senses tingle as you pass by on the commute to and from work.
Recently, I attended the River Island menswear press event. As always, this gives retailers the opportunity to show off their big threads for the coming season. Having already been made available to view online by us lovely folks at FashionBeans, I thought I might run through a few of the pieces I snapped while there (bringing you the always welcome, but often unnecessary, personal touch).
There were prints and patterns galore (as to be expected from a spring/summer collection), but for those that prefer a more restrained style, they have a beautiful selection of monochrome printed pieces to choose from, which echoed the RI Darkside line introduced during AW12.
The stand out piece for me had to be the weekend bag. Beautifully finished with added leather detailing; it’s not too big that you couldn’t pass it off as a work bag but it is large enough to accommodate my excessive amount of travel toiletries.
