‘Save the Date’ by Jacket Required

The creators behind Jacket Required – an invitation only trade show – plan to shoot a series of short films, to be aired prior to their next show held on the 7th and 8th of February. The release of the first two in the series provide exclusive interviews with inspirational leaders in the menswear industry. Directed by photographer and film maker Ivan Ogilive, their first venture into the ‘Save the Date’ series begins with the founder of British brand Universal Works, David Keyte. Keyte describes how Universal Works strives to develop contemporary wardrobe staples rather than create revolutionary men’s fashion, and the video clip provides dedicated fashion followers with a personal insight into influential designer’s techniques, inspirations and ideas. Beginning his career as a coal miner in his hometown of Nottingham, Keyte’s love of fabrics and clothing led him on his successful new path – although even at the height of his career, his father still hoped he would get a ‘proper job’. These down-to-earth, ‘blue collar’ roots contributed to his hardworking ethos, and along with American photographer Paul Strand, has become the inspiration for his new collection, which is an eclectic mix of street, hip hop and British working class. Mr Reynald Gautier, Creative Director of Edwin Jeans, was chosen for the second film of the series. Focusing on ways of experimenting with denim to create exciting new jeans, his appreciation that each individual undergoes a personal journey with their jeans motivates him to keep evolving the label. Shot riding his motorbike near his home, it gives the audience a glimpse into his life outside of Edwin Jeans. Watch both videos below, and then let us know who you think will be next inspirational figure given the Jacket Required ‘Save the Date’ treatment in the comments section.
