SOPOPULAR AW13 ‘The Wild One’ Collection
After enticing us with a small selection of images and a scintillating teaser video earlier in the year, emerging Berlin-based fashion brand SOPOPULAR have this week released the entirety of their new autumn/winter 2013 lookbook.
The lookbook, named “The Wild One” after the seminal 1953 tale of youthful rebellion, takes serious cues from such media, drawing inspiration not only from the collection’s namesake – a film which secured Marlon Brando’s position as an abiding fashion icon – but also from characters in movies such as 1970s vest-fest and definitive gang violence picture The Warriors.
The SOPOPULAR autumn/winter collection, displayed here in eighteen images, comprises smart-casual staples such as plaid overcoats, single- and double-breasted blazers, floral patterned shirts, two-tone sweaters and bomber-style zip-up jackets. The Wild One sticks to a classic grey and black palette, reminiscent of the retro 1950s biker uniforms it largely seeks to emulate, only occasionally daring to mix in moss green tones to add a more contemporary, seasonal flavour.
No motorbike-influenced collection would be complete without some emphasis being placed on leather pieces, and if that type of style is your bag, SOPOPULAR will not disappoint. Metal-studded leather panels on the shoulders of jackets can add a tangible element of danger to your street look, whilst similarly decorated trousers and rugged leather boots complete the look with real flair.
The items offered are appropriately slim fit and clean cut, exuding the classic spice-and-leather-soaked masculinity associated with the no-frills style of Brando’s golden era without making modern wearers look like they’re playing dress up or proffering a misguided attempt to impress Maeby Fünke.
The SOPOPULAR AW13 collection will be available for purchase later in the year.
