The GoodHood Store x Soulland: Winter 2013
From Scandinavia to store, London retailer GoodHood has launched a six-piece capsule collection with Danish label Soulland, inspired by 1980s skateboard style.
The menswear brand has supplied the basic silhouettes whilst The GoodHood Store are responsible for the printed graphics and embroidery. The pairing results in designs that consist of dark, Gothic-style symbols such as skeletons, eyeballs and roses; all emblems of the grunge/skater trend.
Kyle Stewart, Co-Founder of The GoodHood Store, explained the theme of the collaboration: “We don’t skate anymore but share a love of the fruits of life and the heritage of skateboarding, and its legacy is always going to influence anyone that has been touched by it.”
In addition to the many graphics utilised within the collection, the tees and shirts also sport quotes by writers Oscar Wilde and Leo Tolstoy, both whom theorise the concept of happiness in a philosophical fashion. These two references are particularly prominent on the white Sindle Shirt, where they are embroidered around skeletons spanning the chest.
Whilst unique graphics make up the main body of the collection, the feature garment is the Joe Coach Jacket. Coming in a wool and nylon blend, it has a substantially heavy, premium feel. The garment also incorporates intricate details with its neck fastener, drawstring at the hem and multiple zip pockets.
The distinctly minimalist European look of Soulland is one that has been favoured by British brands time and time again. Their latest venture is available online at GoodhoodStore.com with price points starting at £47.
