We are now fast approaching the high summer season, which for many means foreign holidays and music festivals. Founded in Preston in 1988, Voi Jeans have consistently produced on trend apparel at an affordable price point. The brand are renowned for their production of denim, which is instantly recognisable due to the ‘V tick’ branding applied to the rear pockets of their jeans. For SS13, Voi have released a range of relaxed denim and other loose-fitting legwear – ideal for the hot summer months when skinny/tight jeans are impractical. This focus on a more relaxed cut should be seen as an indication of how the brand cater to consumer needs and the season, rather than taken as a statement against an industry that currently abides by an ethos of ‘the slimmer the better’. The accompanying lookbook (shown below) displays a vibrant colour palette that is offset by simple, classic wardrobe staples. On trend stripes are both seasonally-appropriate and reminiscent of traditional Breton designs, although they are given a contemporary make-over through the use of pastel shades and tonal blue hues. The highlight of the collection has to be the two-tone blue hooded jacket. Featuring two contrasting, block-coloured sections, it would make the ideal lightweight summer jacket. Although minimal in its appearance, additional features such as the check lining and tonal top breast pocket show great attention to detail and add an injection of character. Whilst the new Voi collection may not appeal to high-end fashion enthusiasts or those that prefer a more refined style, most should find easy to wear, modern pieces that can be integrated effortlessly into any summer capsule wardrobe.
