Walter Van Beirendonck SS14 Collection
Mimicking a fairground fun house, the Walter Van Beirendonck SS14 collection is eccentrically impactful. Not one to do things by halves, the designer plays on a ‘home sweet home’ theme by repeating a singular design through multiple prints and tones. A kaleidoscopic collection of colours and geometric shapes, this is a range for fearless fashion followers.
Complete with 3D embellishments and abstract layering, the SS14 line pushes the boundaries of the male silhouette. Some outfits are anchored with plain tailored trousers, whilst others construct a continuation of a single piece of artwork throughout the entire body. A classic double-breasted camel coat is even juxtaposed with two-tone candy-coloured trousers. What appears to be reserved at first glance is attentive and eye-catching at the next.
Neck scarves and bonnet hats are the accessories of choice and are complemented by glittering golden hair dos. Knee-high cartoon-printed socks are also partnered with crisp tailored shorts to add a greater element of clash therapy. This is a collection in which the eccentricity of the styling has been carefully considered, right down to every finer detail.
With brands such as Agi & Sam and Givenchy opting for heavy prints and bold colours for 2014, the SS14 man looks set to be full of confidence and not afraid to experiment with style. Configuring looks which we’ll be hard-pushed to find on the high street, high fashion designers have made waves on the runways with experimental outfits that make truly unique statements. Here’s to a new generation of gutless fashion icons.
