YMC Menswear SS13
After previously detailing YMC’s collaboration with both Liberty and Clarks Originals this season, we now turn our attention towards their mainline collection. “A typical jumble of ideas inspired by vintage kimono prints, early 1960s West Coast surf culture and late 1980s casuals” is how Fraser Moss of YMC describes the influences behind the label’s SS13 range.
The whole aesthetic is very much relaxed and laid back, with a slight oversized fit. On display we see a plethora of nature inspired patterns and prints, which are combined with silk rayon, coated linens and madras construction for a light and seasonally appropriate feel.
The collection on the whole is unique and fresh, though we see popular trends like camouflage print and military incorporated with a signature YMC twist. The palette is varied but heavy on burgundy, white/beige, green and navy, giving the collection a refined and timeless appeal.
If you are looking to inject pattern into your spring/summer wardrobe this year, YMC has got you covered. A madras short suit is a particular highlight for those brave enough to expose some leg, whilst if you fancy a walk on the wild side then there are a number of on trend leopard print pieces available – the highlight of which is a camouflage parka that is made from leopard-printed waxed cotton. Treated with an oil-based finish the coat is then washed to give a naturally laundered look. The design is military inspired and features a fishtail hem as well as a drawstring waist that enables you to adjust your silhouette to suit.
YMC have also given the classic trench an update with their summer mac design. Coming in navy or bright lemon, it is constructed from waxed cotton in order to protect from even the heaviest of spring showers. The mac’s design is clean and minimal, in tune with the brand’s signature aesthetic, ensuring that it will become a versatile addition to any wardrobe for years to come.
Overall, the new YMC collection offers classic pieces but with a contemporary twist. You can shop the full range at selected retailers now.
