Ada + Nik Autumn/Winter 2014
There was no second album syndrome for Ada + Nik as the duo returned to London Collections: MEN. Having made their debut at the previous round last June, the pair were keen to impress.
The brand, co-created by designer Ada Zanditon and creative director Nik Thakkar, held a show at London’s ME hotel. Located on The Strand, the event was a stone throw away from Somerset House, the home of London Fashion Week.
Zanditon and Thakkar used their combined 15 years experience in the fashion industry to create ‘The Dark Wolf’, a collection that sticks with the brand’s signature all-black palette.
Attendees of the show enjoyed cocktails from Snow Queen Vodka and dark Jelly Belly bean flavours including Liquorice and Blackberry, designed to mirror the theme.
High profile names were spotted on, as well as off, the runway. Walkers included Olympic canoeist Tom Brady, singer songwriter Aiden Grimshaw, and models Jake Hold and Sam Morgan-Smith.
The AW14 line from the brand contained a number of classic outerwear pieces, with biker jackets and bombers paired with minimal black trousers in slim cut and super skinny silhouettes.
Other looks played with gender – tunic/dress-like garments and shirts extending just above the knees appeared as standalone outfits.
The show was the first time an e-cigarette appeared on the catwalk at a major fashion show in the UK. Model Jake Hold was seen to ‘light up’ during both his outings on the runway, designed to complement the James Dean biker image.
Alongside the runway presentation, the brand also premiered the ‘The Dark Wolf’ short film. Made by Thakkar’s brother, Oz, the three-minute feature stars Spanish model Diego Barrueco and rapper SMITH LDN.
