Japanese Designer Reinterprets Sportswear Classics
The fruits of Japanese producer Nigo’s collaborative debut with adidas Originals have been presented in a new lookbook. Shot by Ari Marcopoulos, the images show hip-hop group Ratking wearing pieces from the line in a mix of urban settings. Classic items such as the Superstar track jacket, matching sweat pants and hooded flock sweatshirt take centre stage, each combining adidas Originals’ signature trefoil branding with Nigo’s bear head emblem. The motif has also been applied to select t-shirts and sportswear, with other pieces seeing adidas’ name replaced with a ‘by Nigo’ tagline.
Nineties-inspired crew neck sweatshirts finish the range, along with a variety of updated trainer models, including the Superstar 80, ZX 500 OG and Rivalry Hi. Despite this being his first collaboration with adidas Originals, producer Nigo is no stranger to the fashion industry, having founded streetwear label A Bathing Ape in 1993. Earlier this month, the brand announced a customisation project in partnership with YR Store, allowing Selfridges shoppers to design and print a one-off A Bathing Ape t-shirt.
The Japanese talent also holds the role of creative director at Uniqlo’s UT brand, which most recently teamed up with Pharrell Williams on a t-shirt and sweatshirt line. The adidas Originals x Nigo collection is available now at select adidas Originals stockists and online, with prices ranging from ÂŁ19 for beanie hats to ÂŁ67 for trainers.
