Confirmed – adidas x Pharrell Williams
After months of speculation, singer Pharrell Williams and sports brand adidas have finally confirmed rumours of an exclusive collaboration.
Williams is the latest talent to join the brand’s roster of athletes, artists and designers. The pairing will result in a line of trainers and clothing that will incorporate the musician’s Bionic Yarn, a thread crafted from recycled plastics.
“Working with an iconic brand like adidas is such an incredible opportunity,” a similar view the star expressed on announcing ties with Comme des Garçons earlier in the month.
“From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn,” he added in a statement.
Highsnobiety first published rumours that the 40-year-old was signing with adidas back in January. The Happy hit-maker has since been continuously photographed wearing adidas trainers and leather versions of the classic adidas Firebird jacket, fuelling expectations.
German sportswear company adidas welcomes Williams to a long list of partners and collaborators, including Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Nigo, Mark McNairy, Yohji Yamamoto and Jeremy Scott.
Despite also recently stealing Kanye West from rivals Nike, the brand has gone on record to reassure fans that bringing the entrepreneur on board will not be a flash in the pan. Bosses have expressed hopes that the pairing will be the start of a “long-lasting relationship”, hinting at the possibility of follow-up lines.
The adidas x Pharrell Williams collection will be unveiled in the summer. Rumours now turn to the specifics as well as the price points of the range soon to be on offer.
