Social Media Snaps Hint At Sports Range
Social media has played another part in the development of the collaboration between Alexander Wang and H&M. The pair has followed up the initial announcement, made via Instagram earlier in the year, by posting preview images of the upcoming collection, due for release in November. High street retailer H&M kicked things off, tweeting a picture of a key chain with two small embossed boxing gloves. The accompanying caption read: ‘Gear up! A first look at the #AlexanderWangxHM collaboration w/ @AlexanderWangNY.’ The Balenciaga creative director followed suit shortly after with the same snap on his own Instagram account. ‘Round 1: first look from the collaboration with @HM #AlexanderWangxHM,’ he wrote. In April, the American designer posted a video to announce the partnership, which follows on from the Swedish store’s projects with Isabel Marant, Karl Lagerfeld Jimmy Choo and Versace. “The idea of collaborations isn’t new any more, they’ve been done from all angles. When they approached me, I wanted to do something different,” Wang told Style.com. “It will be a new take on a lifestyle offering. It’s a little early [to talk about it], but it’s a completely new take on how they do collaborations.” To date, three images have been previewed: the boxing gloves key ring, what appears to be the strap of a gym bag, and an embossed yoga mat. The images suggest a range with a sportswear angle, similar to the athletic approach taken by Wang’s own eponymous label. Whether previews of clothing will follow the glimpses of accessories remains to be seen. The full Alexander Wang x H&M collection will be available in stores worldwide and online from 6th November.
