Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2014

British heritage was on hand as Burberry showed its Prorsum menswear line at this year’s London Collections: MEN. The autumn/winter 2014 collection, entitled ‘A Painterly Journey’, was dubbed the highlight of the three day fashion event by many spectators. Housed on the East Albert Lawn of London’s Kensington Gardens, the invite-only affair attracted the industry’s biggest names. The 14:00pm show kicked off with a homegrown front row including British actors Jamie Campbell and Callum Turner, musicians Tinie Tempah and Paloma Faith, and presenters Nick Grimshaw and Dermot O’Leary. The 158-year strong label was recently recognised as Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2013 British Fashion Awards, with Graduate Fashion Week Gold Award winner Christopher Bailey MBE at the helm. Accompanied by a soundtrack featuring a specially recorded track by Clare Maguire, Chief Creative Officer Bailey sent lightweight trench coats, sheepskin jackets and Fisherman’s rib cardigans down the runway of the custom-built show space. Inspired by self discovery and travel, Bailey fused hand-painted leather and suedes with iconic landmark prints. British painters Ben Nicholson, Christopher Wood and Duncan Grant were among the reference points of the collection, which favoured a palette of brilliant navy, bottle green and dark tangerine. The collection was the first to introduce knitwear and scarves. The latest offerings appeared alongside other unlikely accessories, including British-woven blankets and authentic rugs. After the show, attendees took to twitter after the show to have their say: “[The] teddy bear coat @Burberry Prorsum will be top of our wish list come winter” – @MRPORTERLIVE. “Never fails to impress @Burberry” – @TeoESQUIRE. “Expect everyone to be tying their scarves like that next season” @BritishGQ. In February 2013, the brand introduced its ‘Smart Personalisation’ service. The innovation offers custom-made runway pieces, personalised with a bespoke engraved nameplate. The ‘Runway Made to Order’ service is available on Burberry.com or by appointment in select stores.
