Sports Brand Presents Illustrated Lookbook
Champion has cemented its return to the British market with a lookbook for the sports brand’s first full UK collection in a decade. Shot by Lee Vincent Grubb and illustrated by Geo – the name behind Kanye West’s Yeezus tour imagery – the label’s AW14 collection has been captured in “contemporary but athletic feeling visuals” for the coming season. The line comprises classic graphic t-shirts, football jerseys, baseball tops and varsity sweatshirts complete with retro branding. According to the brand the pieces reference an “associative heritage with the key players within the world of sport; basketball, baseball, American football and athletics”. A four-piece collection made from the reverse weave fabric pioneered by the brand in the fifties also features. It consists of a sweatshirt, hoodie, zip-up hoodie and joggers, all embroidered with Champion’s original logo. A spokesperson said it was “imperative” for the brand to show its “appeal both to the sport and the fashion markets”. Champion kick-started its return to the UK in late 2012, launching a run of capsule collections at Urban Outfitters. The label then went on to collaborate with Todd Snyder in 2013, followed by a project with Herschel Supply Co in June of this year. Pieces from the Champion AW14 collection is available now at Oi Polloi and Size? with prices ranging from £55 for joggers to £85 for hoodies. The full range is set to be available via Champion’s e-commerce site later this year.
