Gieves & Hawkes AW14
The man who turned Italian tailoring on its head is continuing his winning streak with another collection as Creative Director of Gieves & Hawkes. Jason Basmajian originally made waves at Brioni, where he introduced t-shirts, sunglasses and fragrances, before jumping ship to the London label last year.
The autumn/winter 2014 collection from Gieves & Hawkes takes the traditions and quality associated with Savile Row and presents them in a manner in tune with contemporary style. Those at January’s London Collections: MEN would have seen the collection on show, with tailoring, naturally, as the backbone.
A range of masculine suits and evening wear attire in greys, navy blues and browns keep the line classic, while overcoats have been included to add a seasonally-appropriate layer. Modern elements fused with an experimental approach add a unique personality to the offering. Interesting pieces such as a cropped Argyll jacket or flowing cape bring variety and create eye-catching silhouettes.
Many of the looks incorporate casual pieces such as knitwear and bomber jackets to broaden the range. Shearling has been used to enhance the sense of luxury associated with the brand, while leather adds a sports luxe feel.
Pattern and colour also receives a moment, with the jacquard tuxedo jacket fast becoming a talking point of the three-day fashion event.
Gieves & Hawkes’ autumn/winter 2014 collection, which will be available later this year, strikes the balance between the classic and the contemporary.
The royal warrant-awarded tailors is currently offering hour long personal styling and private tailoring appointment at its Savile Row location. Visit GievesandHawkes.com to book.
