Preppy American Brand Previews Ocean-Inspired Designs
American casualwear brand J.Crew has previewed its menswear line for SS15, showcasing a collection inspired by the travels of its men’s design head, Frank Muytjens. Using childhood memories of Spain, Muytjens has produced items in a palette of blues taken from the ocean, resulting in looks significantly lighter than seen for autumn/winter 2014. Contrasting neutral tones of beige, white and grey also feature across the range, which spans knitwear, denim, t-shirts, trousers, outwear and accessories. The mix of sportswear, casual tailoring and knitwear plays to J.Crew’s signature preppy style, combining everything from joggers to shirts. A key piece seen throughout is the bucket hat, coming in patchwork denim, colour-block and Hawaiian print styles. “This season there is special emphasis on simplicity, nothing overly complicated. I love the fisherman’s cable knit cardigans updated with white buttons, chambray naval popovers, French workwear jackets,” said Muytjens. J.Crew expanded its UK offering earlier this month by opening a new store in London’s Sloane Square, marking the fourth addition since November 2013. The SS15 collection will be available to buy online and in stores from next year. An exact date and price points are yet to be announced. Current J.Crew menswear ranges from around £25 for t-shirts, £95 for jeans and £140 for outerwear.
