Edgar Davids is hoping success on the pitch continues into his latest menswear venture. The Dutch legend is one of a handful of footballers to transition into fashion following a career in the sport.
The former Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur player, best known for his trademark glasses, has given FashionBeans exclusive images of his Monta Heritage brand, an offshoot of his established streetwear line.
Designed as a sports luxe label, the SS14 collection features t-shirts, polos, jackets, knitwear, trousers and tailoring. Finishes such as washed virgin wool, stretch cotton and biker zips can be found across the 21-piece range.
Davids, who attended a short course at the Central Saint Martins fashion school before starting the line, claims to have been inspired by Japanese and South-American cultures.
“They have a totally different perception of style… When you combine these perceptions you will obtain your own style.”
The 41-year-old showed off the brand at Italian fashion event Pitti Uomo earlier this year. He follows the likes of David Beckham, Neymar Jr and Cristiano Ronaldo who have made the jump into menswear as designers and ambassadors.
Despite no current plans for standalone retail space in the UK, Davids confirmed work has begun on an AW14 offering.
The SS14 line from Monta Heritage is currently available to buy online at montaheritage.com. Prices range from £65.90 for t-shirts, to £621.80 for jackets.
