Nike Releases New Winter Competition Kit
The snowboard arm of Nike’s sporting empire has announced the release of its new competition kit for winter athletes.
The outfitter unveiled the gear, which will be worn by various international snowboarders and skiers competing at this year’s Olympic Games in Sochi.
Ken Black, Senior Creative Director, spoke of the designers who worked tirelessly to ensure this particular collection provides an unrivalled level of mobility and comfort.
“The winter competition kit was created for zero distraction, blending the best of Nike innovation with the right aesthetic for snowboarders.”
“Made for movement, the kit is fully functional and adapts from mountain to village, dressing riders in a way that pays respect to the mountain but is also authentic to sport,” he added.
Athletes from Norway, Switzerland and Japan will all be testing the functionality of Nike’s latest offering over the course of the games, which run until 23rd February.
Team GB will soon be sporting much the same, after a legal spat with adidas encouraged UK athletes to drop the supplier in exchange for a £15m deal with the rivals.
In the meantime, Black maintains this particular kit’s bold, dark aesthetic will guarantee all eyes remain on the Olympians sporting it at the already controversial event.
It’s the LunarENDOR Quickstrike Snowboard Boot that drives Nike’s latest winter competition kit. The brand claims the style to be “the most advanced boot on the market”. In order to soften landings, designers have implemented Lunarlon foam, which is said to add a plush responsiveness. Meanwhile, added strobel technology works to attract and store heat.
The Nike x Dragon Khyber goggles complement the collection’s functionality with a new integrated venting system that heavily increases comfort and airflow. A speed-change lens system allows for quick adaptation to lighting conditions, accompanied by anti-fog measures.
The remainder of Nike’s winter kit encompasses the brand’s intent to infuse new-age street fashion with harsh-weather environments.
Trousers that enhance both breathability and dryness sit alongside jackets and hoodies that incorporate durable, water-repellent fabrics.
Nike SB’s new winter competition kit is expected to become available to buy in store and online soon.
