US Label Redesigns Classic adidas Footwear

Serial collaborator Opening Ceremony has toned down its usual approach for its latest partnership with adidas Originals.

The American label has produced two new takes on the sportswear brand’s Stan Smith trainer model as part of an ongoing deal between the pair.

The first features a black pony skin upper, all-black sole, leather heel tab, tongue and laces. The embroidered Stan Smith logo, which normally features on the tongue, has been moved to the heel tab to make way for an embossed leather Opening Ceremony version.

For the second design, the firm has opted for a fingerprint effect in white, cream and grey. Three perforated stripes on the side represent adidas’ signature branding, finished with contrasting white laces and eyelets.

Earlier in the year the partnership led to the release of a line of Taekwondo-inspired trainers and a baseball design of adidas’ Stan Smith hi-tops.

Originating in the US, Opening Ceremony first launched in the UK in 2005, opening its first standalone store in Covent Garden, London, in 2012. It has since launched a pop-up store at the Shoreditch Ace Hotel, which is currently open.

The Opening Ceremony x adidas Originals AW14 collection is available now online and from select retailers including Sneakersnstuff. Both styles are priced at £130.
