Pretty Green Spring/Summer 2014
Liam Gallagher turned to The Beatles when looking for inspiration for his most recent collection.
Designing for his Pretty Green label, Gallagher used the fab four’s 1967 film Magical Mystery Tour as a starting point for his ‘Open Road’ line. As a result, the offering mirrors the diverse costumes seen on screen, from vibrant and psychedelic to tailored and classic.
Rich musical heritage is also found in the accompanying Open Road campaign. The brand was built on the once-Oasis front man’s iconic looks during the 1990s Brit Pop era. With this in mind, images recreate scenes of the music lifestyle featuring fans, roadies and artists.
Pat Salter, Pretty Green’s Design Director, says: “There is such a rich tapestry of inspiration to draw on when you look back over our great British music history. The Magical Mystery Tour is one of those events that sticks out as moment in time. We don’t want to replicate we’re just immersed in trying to recapture the feel of all that interesting British melting pot of colour and style.”
Colours hint at the connection to the film with bright tones only anchored by the occasional dark hue. The brand’s signature paisley motif returns both as a visible print and in a subtle lining form.
The Sunbury single-breasted blazer is featured prominently in the campaign. It features a vibrant blue/taupe print with all-over stitching detail. Made from 100 per cent cotton, it is priced at £165.
A walrus badge can be seen throughout, paying homage to the song I am the Walrus, written by John Lennon, which inspired the film.
SS14 from the firm also sees the launch the ‘It’s Only Pretty Green But I Like It’ bags, crafted from canvas with soft leather trim and handles.
The collection is available now at Pretty Green stores and online at PrettyGreen.com.
