Rock ‘N’ Roll Brand Taps Former Beatle As Campaign Face
Former Beatle Ringo Starr has realised a life long dream by becoming a male model. The 74-year old was unveiled as the face of the autumn/winter 2014 campaign for rock ‘n’ roll-inspired brand John Varvatos. Announced on his birthday, the black and white images feature Starr showing off his signature peace sign hand gesture and a #peacerocks tagline. Working alongside a fashion brand has always been a goal according to the drummer. “John Varvatos made me a male model finally,” he told WWD at a launch event. “At home, I’ve always been a male model. And now I’m out on the streets with it.” The hashtag is a part of a charity initiative through which fans are encouraged to post selfies to Twitter, Instagram, Vine or Facebook acting out a similar pose. For every entry, the company has pledged to donate $1 to the Ringo Starr Peace & Love Fund, which supports David Lynch’s transcendental meditation foundation. Starr’s campaign, which follows on from similar projects with the likes of Kiss and Iggy Pop, also includes a short behind the scenes film. In August, John Varvatos will open its first European store in London. The 10,000sq ft space will house a large shoe department as well as its line of clothing and accessories. Alongside the store launch, the brand plans to roll out its newest fragrance, Artisan Acqua, priced at £43 for a 75ml and £60 125ml eau de toilette.
