High Street Chain Taps Into Minimal Looks

Fans of a minimal style will have one more place to shop thanks to the latest drop from River Island’s Studio collection.

The high street retailer has revealed its AW14 looks from the sub-brand, which are formed around a palette of black with appearances of navy blue.

According to a statement, designs substitute colour for “intelligent design” by incorporating sportswear influences such as mesh panel detailing and contrasting metal accents.

Key menswear pieces include the chevron quilted Gregor jacket and the longline Willhelm T-shirt, which features a 3D caviar print motif.

River Island’s Studio collection is created by an in-house team, focusing on more “luxe technical fabrics” and “contemporary cuts”.

Head designer Melanie Wilkinson told FashionBeans the range is a way for River Island to “flex” its design muscle and show “an affinity for key trends”.

The offshoot label debuted in SS14 with five pieces. It stands aside from the brand’s mainline AW14 collection, which was revealed in lookbook in May.

River Island also produces a seasonal Holloway Road collection with references to the chain’s North London heritage.

The AW14 Studio collection from River Island will arrive online and in ten select stores, including locations in London, Manchester and Liverpool, from October. Prices range from £25 for t-shirts to £130 for outerwear.
