Rock Star Teams Up With Lifestyle Brand
Lifestyle brand Sailor Jerry has unveiled a range of clothes designed by rock and style icon Iggy Pop as part of its annual Flash Collection collaboration.
It features a 1950s-style denim vest complete with a Sailor Jerry anchor and the phrase ‘Death Shall Triumph’. Each comes with a pack of six patches, chosen from the American singer-songwriter’s favourite Flash designs, allowing wearers to customise the piece.
The collection also carries a leather belt, hand-tooled by brothers Michael and David Stampler of the Norman Porter Workshop in Philadelphia and boasting a hand-cast brass buckle. The fastener is cast with a Sailor Jerry image of a shark rising from the sea, which Pop regards as a symbol of “power and individuality”. A limited 100 belts have been created.
“I dig Norman’s tattoo designs,” he explained, “and totally wanted to bring to life his awesome Flash Art in a clothing range. This is my first time designing a clothing collection and what’s been really interesting is digging through all of Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins’ work and learning all about the man, the legend!”
The 67-year old said the vest was his chosen piece as it is his preferred garment for situations when he can’t be shirtless. He chose the ‘Death Shall Triumph’ phrase because his own motto, ‘Death is Certain’, has helped him make the most of his life. Only 50 vests have been made, each signed.
The Sailor Jerry x Iggy Pop Flash Collection is available to buy online now, priced at $600 (£375) for the vest and $240 (£150) for the belt.
