Menswear Chain Launches Futuristic Retail First

Topman has today taken its in store Personal Shopping service digital, using Google+ Hangout technology to offer one-on-one style advice via video-chat. The menswear retailer allows shoppers to pre-book appointments with the dedicated team through the Topman website or smartphone app, specifying particular needs or trend preferences ahead of the slot. After the tailored session, users have the option of buying products directly from the Hangout to be delivered or picked up from a local store. Google+ marketing director Marvin Chow said the move is “a tremendous addition to [Topman’s] brand experience”. Meanwhile Topman marketing director Jason Griffiths said it will open up the service to customer all over the UK. “Through a few simple clicks you will be able to book and experience a one-on-one online appointment with one of our expert Personal Shoppers no matter where you are.” It is the first retail chain to offer a service of this kind, Griffiths’s added this “further demonstrates Topman’s credentials as being at the forefront of all things innovative in the fashion world”. To mark the debut of the online experience, Nick Grimshaw will this week host a Hangout alongside the Personal Shopping team. Scheduled to take place on 1st October between 6pm – 6:30pm, the Hangout will offer live styling advice and various prizes to participants. Topman first partnered with Google’s video chat platform at London Collections: Men AW14 with a shoppable event co-hosted by TV fashion expert Darren Kennedy and MTV presenter Becca Dudle. In May this year Topman doubled the size of its Personal Shopping suite at its Oxford Street flagship, relocating to the third floor of the 23,000sq ft store. A statement from the Arcadia-owned brand confirmed plans to launch the service globally, though no timeline has been given for the roll out. Both in store and online appointments in the UK are available to book now.
