Menswear newcomer Whistles has released the lookbook for its debut autumn/winter 2014 collection. A total of 15 outfits have been pulled together from the 120-piece range, due for release online and in stores later this year. For many it is the first time the line, described as “the building blocks of an edited wardrobe,” has been seen. It features clothing – overcoats, leather biker jackets, luxury sportswear, wool trousers; footwear – lace-up boots, leather trainers and double monk shoes; and accessories – bags, knitted scarves and baseball caps. The offering is around 400 per cent smaller than the firm’s womenswear range, which carries close to 600 items. However, CEO Jane Shepherdson suggests the trial approach leaves room to grow: “If the simple things don’t look brilliant, how can you expect customers to fall for the more standout pieces?” In addition to the lookbook, the brand has given FashionBeans exclusive access to a video from its press event, which took place in April. Guests at the Waterloo house were invited to view the first-ever range in the fictional home of the Whistles man. The two-minute clip, narrated by Port Fashion Features Director David Hellqvist, follows a dinner by Michelin starred chef Keith Goddard and a private acoustic performance by Jacob Banks. The debut menswear collection from Whistles will roll out in the final quarter of 2014 in 17 first phase stores, including locations in London, Scotland and Manchester, as well as online, before a wider launch shortly after.

As FashionBeans deputy editor, Luke Todd is tasked with filtering through the latest from the worlds of fashion, grooming, fitness, technology and lifestyle to deliver an indispensable edit of the most stylish stuff.
