Two-Piece Line Celebrates London Landmark

New menswear launch Whistles has teamed up with illustrator Joe Cruz on a two-piece collection. The limited line comprises a grey crew neck t-shirt and navy blue sweatshirt, printed with abstract illustrations of London’s Barbican Centre. Appearing in a block form, the “minimal, contemporary illustrations” feature photos of the architectural landmark surrounded by Cruz’s blue, green and black artwork. The British illustrator who “has become synonymous for his expressive use of lines, strong colours and graphical imagery,” has also worked on projects with fashion brands Stussy, Melissa and Tenue De NĂ®mes in the past. Whistles announced its first foray in to menswear in October 2013, revealing its plans to enter the men’s market for AW14. The retailer waited until June 2014 to unveil its 120-piece collection, starting with fifteen looks. The line was made available in select Whistles stores as part of the first phase of its launch in September of this year, in addition to stockists ASOS and Harvey Nichols. The Whistles x Joe Cruz collection will arrive in stores and online from late December, with the t-shirt priced at £45 and the sweatshirt at £95.
