Trainers Inspired By Papercut Art

Next in line to team up with ASICS for the 25th anniversary celebration of its Gel Lyte III trainer is Swiss retailer Titolo, producing a new, darker take on its classic running shoe. Having already collaborated with Tokyo-based label Mita and American retailer Packer on fresh iterations of its iconic sneaker, ASICS’ latest pairing draws inspiration from the traditional art of ‘Scherenschnitt’ – or ‘paper cutting’. In an homage to the Switzerland boutique’s new Zurich shop, the trainer references the intricate pattern on the ceiling of the store via its unique floral patterned insole, tongue and side panel striping. It comes complete with cut out silhouettes stamped on each heel, striking red accents and branding, a contrasting white midsole and a choice of coordinating laces in red, black, and red/white. Making its debut in 1991, the Gel Lyte III rose to fame due to its unusual split tongue design and chunky form. To this day, it remains a retro favourite amongst trainer fans and sportsmen alike. The ASICS X Titolo Gel Lyte III is available now at select stockists, priced at £119.
