Celebrate In Style

Today marks one of my favourite dates on the calendar: St Patrick’s Day. Whether you’re Irish, British, American – or any nationality for that matter – I’m sure we can all agree on one thing: good old St. Paddy’s Day always guarantees a good time. But as jovial as this occasion may be, that’s no excuse to let your sartorial standards slip. Don’t be that guy in the over the top bright green outfit with a novelty Guinness hat on. Here are some tips and tricks to help get you in the party spirit while ensuring you stay the right side of stylish.

Be Mean With Green

Green has long been a colour associated with the Irish, but as with all things style-related, less is more. Rather than decking yourself head-to-toe in shamrock green, opt for a dash of unexpected colour – a pair of khaki Converse trainers or a bottle green scarf, for example.

Go Formal

There’s a long history of Irish performers (poets, writers, artists, musicians) adopting the suit as their armour for everyday life. Why not follow their lead? Don’t go full formal though – switch the shirt and tie for a plain tee, and your brogues for trainers to avoid looking overdressed.

Tweed Up

St Patrick’s Day is the ideal time to wear your tweed pieces. After all, what better way to pay homage to Ireland’s world famous County Donegal? But rather than go down the obvious blazer route, which could quickly become uncomfortable when partying, try a traditional flat cap. The perfect way to bring a touch of heritage charm to your look.

Your Choice Of Tipple

Although Guinness tends to be everyone’s go-to drink when it comes to St Patrick’s Day, why not mix things up and try a traditional Irish whiskey? Jameson is always a great option as it’s smooth enough for most newbies to drink neat or on the rocks. If you fancy branching out further though, we recommend Green Spot, Powers John’s Lane or Greenore.

The Fallback Jumper

If all else fails, the easiest way to nod to the occasion is to simply wear a green piece of knitwear. However, steer well clear of novelty styles and instead look for a classic military green or khaki sweater that will slot seamlessly into your current wardrobe, becoming a key part of your daily rotation.
