There are some trainer brands who manage to leap the river that separates fashion and performance trainers. For others, a predilection for garish shades and plasticky fabrics ensure their shoes always get stocked in the Lycra-filled side of the shop.
For the last few years, Seattle running expert Brooks has been trying to transition away from running and towards the streets, courtesy of every sneaker brand’s default tactic: get retailers to redesign its archive.
To date, it’s been an unsuccessful mission; unlike most limited edition collabs, you can pick most of Brooks’ pieces up on the sale racks. But this latest spin on the Regent silhouette, courtesy of West Coast retailer BAIT, is a bit of a game-changer. Nerdy colours and materials are evicted, in favour of premium suede and an all-red colourway that’s been dubbed the ‘Inferno’.
We’re sure that Kanye, designer of the Nike Red October, would approve. Importantly, branding is also kept to a minimum. So now you can rock your Brooks without fear of playground taunts.
The BAIT x Brooks Regent Inferno is available now from Hanon, priced at £109.
