Menswear’s love affair with the land of the rising sun looks set to continue for 2017, with River Island tapping Tourne de Transmission for an Eastern-influenced streetwear range. The label, founded in 2012 as an art and T-shirt platform, is the latest name in the high street store’s Design Forum series, following on from collaborations with Lou Dalton, Christopher Shannon and YMC. Spanning clothing, shoes and accessories, the 14-piece collection fuses traditional Japanese design techniques and fabrics with elements of Tokyo street culture. So expect traditional Japanese pieces – such as kimono-shaped jackets and wide leg trousers – overhauled to meet a modern, British wardrobe.
