Some people require no introduction, but we’ll give him one anyway. Mr Cristiano Ronaldo is listed by Forbes the world’s highest paid athlete, ESPN ranks him as the world’s most famous sportsperson, he’s won four Ballon d’Or awards, five league titles, four Champions League titles and two Club World Cups – but you already knew that, didn’t you?
One of his lesser known achievements, though, is that he’s a budding fashion entrepreneur. Since becoming something of a style icon in recent years, stepping out in more Balmain than a Ukrainian supermodel, CR7 has now gone one step further and taken his precocious talent off the pitch, and into the design studio.
By launching an eponymously titled denim line with a specific focus on comfort and mobility, Cristiano is aiming to solve the problem of denim being uncomfortable for ultra-active lifestyles.
To get the low-down on why he’s chosen to add denim to his vast portfolio, where he sees himself in the future and what drives him to constantly be the best, we spoke to the man himself. 
FashionBeans: You’re one of the most photographed celebrities in the world. How do you ensure you’re always looking on top form?
Ronaldo: I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with different fashion styles – I think that’s the only way to learn what you do and don’t like when it comes to your wardrobe. I think looking good is important to the extent that it makes you feel good, but what’s more important is being totally comfortable in what you wear because that will shine through.
What’s your go-to day off look?
On my days off I’ll usually grab a pair of jeans and throw on a t-shirt. That’s what I love about denim, it’s so versatile and can be dressed up or dressed down, so it’s worth spending time finding the right piece.
How involved were you in the design of the CR7 collection? Fashion has always been an interest of mine so being involved in the process was very important to me. You can see elements of my personal style in the collection and I’ve really enjoyed seeing it all come together.
What’s your must-buy piece from the CR7 collection?
For my personal style, I tend to gravitate towards the distressed denim styles – I think it adds an extra element of style. In terms of fit I go for the skinny fit. The collection is available in four different fits at varying prices, as it was important for me to keep the line accessible, so I think there’s be something there for everyone.
Whose style inspires you?
I wouldn’t say I have a specific style icon, really. The denim range was inspired by my active lifestyle, so it was designed for anyone who lives by the same limitless philosophy. We used the latest in stretch fabric technology so that the jeans enable movement instead of restricting the wearer, which is great for when I’m travelling and working hard. 
What’s your greatest achievement to date?
I’ve had a very blessed career, and there are many moments I’m proud of. But if I had to pick one it would be captaining the Portugal team to our first major trophy last year. That was a very special moment for me.
Is there anything you’d love to achieve that you haven’t yet? For me, there is no finish line, life is all about the journey. I hope I get to continue playing football for as long as I’m able, and to keep pushing myself to achieve bigger and better. And outside of football, I hope to continue building the CR7 brand.
What is it that has driven you and given you the motivation to constantly be the best? I tend to live my life by the mantra ‘never stop’. I never stop moving. I never stop pushing. I never stop improving. This is when life becomes limitless. Living my life by this thought motivates me to be the best I can be, whatever I’m working on.
As someone who gives back through your charity work do you think that has helped in your career? I look to give back as much as possible. This has definitely helped my career as it has kept me grounded, wherever I’ve gone and whatever I’ve done. It’s amazing to be in the position to be able to give back, and is probably the best thing about being so fortunate.
