New year, new you, or so says every Facebook feed on the planet. But reinventing yourself in the style stakes is about as difficult as hauling your ass into the gym on January 1, especially when it concerns formal dress codes. That is, of course, unless you’re Ryan Gosling at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The Gos amongst men opted for a simple move while in California, commonly known as the ‘air tie’ – the complete omission of any neckwear. In its place, a buttoned up shirt toes red carpet codes without the usual stuffiness, but still adds a touch of memorability. Complete the look with the usual black tie suspects and et voila: a look to trump any conservative Cannes get-up.
