How can you possibly stay on top of the sneaker game? Hundreds of new releases saturate the internet every month, whether entirely new models, updates or just seasonal colourways being added to classic designs, all sending sneakerheads into collective meltdown.

Of course there’s a matter of personal taste involved – not every release will be for you, and chances are you’ll have to get in there quickly if you want to tap up a pair in a size not just reserved for children or NBA players.

We’re here to help with this tricky dilemma. Below you’ll find our sneaker of the week, as well as four other stellar offerings from the world of fine footwear. This week we have suede uppers, gum soles and vintage-style foam tongues from the likes of New Balance, Nike and Adidas.

New Balance 574 Magnet With Tropical Green & White

New Balance 574

Retro running shoes are perhaps the coolest trainers you can own right now. Forget super minimal trainer styles or bulky dad shoes, these sleek, comfortable designs are where it’s at.

New Balance has been at the top of the runner food chain for decades, and has dominated the luxury end of this specific niche since the introduction of the 574 in the early ‘80s.

There are numerous colourways on offer today, and you can even make up your own with New Balance’s ‘customise’ system, but one of the best we’ve seen in a while is this seasonal grey, green and white combination. They’re perfect for wearing with shorts and a polo when the mercury hikes up, but will also transition well into autumn with selvedge denim. The gum sole is a welcome addition to New Balance’s staple use of suede, nubuck and mesh.

Rarity Rating: 4/10

Design History: Based on 574 of early 1980s

Best For: Extreme comfort and subtle pops of colour

The Best Of The Rest

Adidas Originals Supercourt Crystal White, Chalk White & Off-White

Adidas Supercourt

Look for a plain white sneaker from Adidas and you’ll probably be drawn to the Stan Smith, the most famous tennis shoe of all time. But the German brand offers so much more, including this new Supercourt, complete with off-white suede and leather accents.

The best part about this shoe is the sole, which is chunky but not too chunky. It gives the silhouette a heftier feel that’s missing from other, more svelte rivals.

Rarity Rating: 3/10

Design History: New design, inspired by Adi’s tennis shoe heritage of the ’60s onwards

Best For: Anyone with a penchant for minimal sneakers, made to last

Adidas Pharrell Williams Solar HU PRD Triple Core Black

Adidas Pharrell Williams Solar HU PRD

Pharrell Williams’s ongoing partnership with Adidas has been nowhere near as lucrative as Kanye West’s Yeezy line, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some interesting designs on offer.

These running shoes feature an all black look perfect for finishing off a monochromatic look. They’re technically proficient too if you actually want to run in them, with a breathable textile upper and bouncy Boost soles that help absorb impact with every step.

Rarity Rating: 5/10

Design History: New design

Best For: A modern running shoe with a pared back look

Nike Daybreak White & University Red

Nike Daybreak

The Daybreak was a standout shoe amongst Nike’s running arsenal in the early ‘80s, but it’s the recent collaboration with Japanese label Undercover that stoked sneakerheads’ appetites for all things retro.

On the back of its success though, Nike sought fit to release a simpler version that’s true to the original design. It’s flown under the radar, making it easier to get hold of and, we reckon, that little bit cooler for it. It’s not a hype shoe exactly, but the Daybreak is a simple, suede and nylon, waffle-soled runner that ticks all the right boxes.

Rarity Rating: 6/10

Design History: Based on the Nike Daybreak of 1979

Best For: Those after a retro running shoe with unrivalled heritage

C.QP Jubilee

Suede is perhaps the ultimate summer sneaker material. It’s soft, supple and wears in well, which is why these limited edition C.QP trainers are an exciting proposition for the warmer months.

Hand-crafted in Portugal from nappy Italian suede, and with cream leather detailing and a matching sole, these are about as well-made a trainer as you’ll find. They’ve been created for C.QP’s 5th anniversary and as such there are only 25 pairs available, so if you fancy them, don’t hang around.
