Budget Fashion – Outfits Under £100

Budget Look Book - Outfits Under £100

Editors Note: Ben Beaton has joined the writing team as a young guy who loves his clothes and fashion. He noticed the teen/low budget audience of the site was slightly less catered for than those within their mid to late 20’s. He came to me with a flair for fashion but also willing to throw some looks together on the cheap so you can look great even when money is tight. Obviously all his articles will be focusing on low cost clothing which is obtainable for all even in these tough financial times. I hope you enjoy this series and I look forward to more articles from him. Also please note that all these products are generally in the SALE so they will be in limited stock (some may sell out before you even click through). Thanks, Ben (Editor)

Love clothes? And shopping for them? But find that you can’t always afford what you really want? Well welcome to my world. As lots of teens will know it can be hard to find great looking and quality clothing at affordable prices. If this is you then I am here to help, I have scoured the deep depths of the Internet to bring you some fabulously stylish outfits all at rock bottom prices. If there was one thing I learned while doing this that I want to pass on to you it is that it isn’t hard to find great cheap clothes you just have to have an open mind on what you want and have some time to search around for them.

These are just a few ideas for outfits, they are here to show you that it can be done; and with a bit of shopping around it can be achieved. Not all outfits will have basics like t-shirts included as it is taken that you will have some options in your wardrobe already that can be thrown on seamlessly.

Outfit 1

This relaxed formal outfit is great for a night out or drinks after work. Using the striped blue shirt and tan loafers adds two great focal points to the outfit and what would be great here is if you had a great mac or trench to throw over the top. For the basis of this outfit we kept it really simple as something you can rock all day and then into the night as well. Look for slim trousers to give you a fashion forward look and keep everything fitted to add to the chic vibe you have going on.

Spot Back Waistcoat John Lewis Men Wide Stripe Shirt, Navy

Check Trousers Base London Henley

Grand total of: £98

Notes:
Floral shirts are a great way to make a statement (try subbing one in above) but if flowers are not your thing a colour full striped or spotted shirt is essential otherwise it can make the outfit look too formal and boring. By adding that more exciting shirt it can make the outfit more relaxed and well rounded. One tip is to make the outfit less formal when wearing a long sleeve shirt is to roll or fold the sleeves up, as it can make all the difference. Look out for pre-rolled versions in bold colourways like the one below:

Check Roll Sleeve Shirt

Almost any well fitting pair of trousers or nice jeans will work wonderfully with this look. I just wanted to show you that even a black pair of skinny jeans works:

Hurley One and Only

Again any pair of smart shoes will work well but it’s nice to have a pair that are not traditional black or navy as they can seem too formal. A softer colour such a brown or cream work better for younger males, whilst a nice pair of slip on loafers with no laces and a great shape will add some flair.

Outfit 2

Here the two focal points are the bag and the shoes. Tan shoes are a great way of adding a bold statement colour to an outfit, and these are on SALE right now in limited sizes. The soft grey satchel also adds a great difference in colour compared to the other darker pieces. I would match a nice military style polo shirt underneath the knitwear and you could also maybe throw on a great skinny tie in order to bring the bottom layers to life. The knitwear is a true quality statement piece that looks 2 or 3 times more expensive than it actually is.

Black Jersey Epauletee Peacoat Raw Indigo Slim Jeans

Ben Sherman STREWTH Leather Tie Shoe GREY TWILL CANVAS SATCHEL

Grand total of: £100

Notes:
As you may have gathered military is very big now but this does not mean that you have to spend a bomb on it as Topman has wonderfully demonstrated with some great military jackets for under £50. Here is another stand out version for just £40:

Grey Soldier Button Thur

Outfit 3

This outfit is really simple but is right on trend. Big chunky knitwear is perfect for this season and this cable knit cardigan from New Look is an amazing version with a shawl collar that will really make you stand out to a lot of other males. Underneath I would wear a focal piece to inject some great colour into the outfit. Think a bold purple, yellow, red check shirt or graphic print t-shirt (like shown). The textured stretch trousers by John Lewis will be a slim fit making them very fashion forward, plus the material is textured which adds another element to our outfit. The textured trousers also adds some class and even an aura of wealth which is great when worn ironically as a poor student like me! We keep the texture rolling right through the bottom half of the outfit with some great grey acid wash plimsolls which gives the appearance of a suede finish. The colour is also a beautiful contrast to the trousers it is matched with. Overall a very sophisticated casual outfit that you can add your own spin to with your t-shirt/shirt.

Cable Knit Cardigan John Lewis Texture Stretch Trousers, Taupe WHITE SKELETON CREW T-SHIRT

Brown Jeans Belt Acid Wash Plimsoll

Grand total of: £96.00

Notes:
There are a plethora of amazing cardigans over at new look it was very hard to choose which one to pick for this article. I have put a great double breasted example below which would also look great and completely transform the look:

Double Breasted Cardigan

Just keep it simple with the bottom half… no fancy jeans, these cords are simple and complement the cardigan and belt that adds the needed colour.

I hope you have found this article helpful and that will help inspire you to take a look around and find great clothes on the cheap. Just keep it on the down low… you wouldn’t want everyone to know your little secret!

Hi, great article, really useful for me as I’m a teenager. Just wanted to ask about the main picture which is from River Island (I’ve actually got the same coat as the guy in the middle, is that a new photo shoot due to be released or just pictures from the website? Thanks!

I actually put that picture in so I will answer this one…

That photo shoot was actually the look book for the Autumn/Winter collections so all those pieces have been released already I would assume. I put the pictures from River Island as they normally do a great job of creating outfits on a budget that still look great. The coat is great by the way

Thanks for the article Ben, it’s so hard to find menswear trends on a budget and even harder to get good advice on it. Feel free to write more =D

I wouldn’t be seen in any of this to be honest. Just my opinion.

I love it. I just bought a long cardigan from Express Men, for only $32 USD. It’s nice to know I have some fashion sense. The only thing I fear about is people thinking I am wearing a womnen’s sweater.

    Thank you.
