Dress Your Age
I appreciate that fashion is a personal thing, and generally doesn’t fit into an age bracket if you’re comfortable wearing it… or at least that’s what we’d like to believe. But surely there are limits to things we should wear once we start getting on a bit?
Companies like A&F seem to have made a conscious effort to recognise age brackets, with their very distinct brands aim at each (Hollister for the younger bracket, A&F for the mid and the now closed Ruehl for the older bracket).
I’m 35 now, and still like buying a lot of my stuff from places like River Island and Topman (which is probably a fashion faux pas for my age). I’m often put off of buying the items I like because I’m worried I might be too old for them.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to look like One Direction’s dad, but I do like a lot of the current fashion trends.
I am perfectly happy dressing smart for work, or smart casual, and feel I have a realistic grasp on my own more classic style. But I do feel that at my age it is expected that I dress for style and not fashion, and for me that borders on looking the same every day.
I’d like to see some articles that touch on style and fashion for particular age brackets, and looks that would be considered acceptable.
I hope anyone writing such an article would actually have been the age they are writing about. If some young 20 year old (I wouldn't dream of telling you how to dress your age either) starts telling me how to dress my age, I shall snort in derision and mock endlessly.
