    Getting a jacket tailored

    Hi all,

A friend of mine has offered me two of his jackets, for free. He buys good quality stuff and really looks after it.

One jacket is a really nice tweed but the other I'm not too sure about as it's a grey/green Swiss silk. Fit wise they're not too bad, but they seem to have been designed for rugby players - the sleeves are very generous and they have wide shoulders.

I read (on here I think), that narrowing shoulders is pretty difficult, so do you think it's worth searching out a tailor to see if he can alter these?

    Cheers

If you're getting them for free, I see no point in not trying.

Mind you, altering the shoulders is a major task, might not be cheap, and not all tailors will do it. Ask around and see what the cost would be.

Yeah, the general consensus is "If it doesn't fit in the shoulders, don't get it", but since you're getting them for free and they're particularly nice, you might as well take them to a tailor and find out what can be done and how much it will cost.

Thanks guys. I've noticed a tailor not far from where I work - I'll pop in and have a chat.
