What to pair with black skinny jeans

    Hi guys,

After kicking off my stalled career as a singersongwriter, I've decided to revisit my earlier indie days and purchase some black skinny jeans. The problem is footwear.

I went to the pub the other day wearing a light wash denim jacket, a white all saints v-neck, the jeans and brown hudson brogue boots. I know that you're not meant to pair black and brown, but it looked good to me.

So first of all, thoughts on the pairing? Secondly, any other recomendations for footwear? I really want some black chelseas, but it's hard finding ones which aren't too pointy.

    Cheers

The whole concept of not wearing black and brown only really applies to formal looks; what you were wearing sounds pretty awesome. As for other pieces of footwear I think any type of black shoe is a safe bet (your idea of Chelsea Boots sounds good) or a simple pair of black/white/coloured trainers. If you're feeling very brave then perhaps sling on tan belt/brogues. It would be a very strong look but if you can pull it off then you'd look awesome!
    Hope this helped

Look no further than Brandon flowers for outfit inspiration, most of his award nominations and wins on his wiki page are for being well/best dressed.

Also totally agree with Alex on the black/brown conundrum, definitely applies to formal mainly, you're your own best judge and it will feel wrong if it is.

Burgundy could look rather good with black skinnies; maybe some derbies or penny loafers or something. Or like Alex said, anything black (chelseas are definitely a great shout if you nail the shape) or trainers. Perhaps something grey? Desert boots?

I do have stone coloured clarks originals desert boots, but I've always thought they are a bit round in the toe to be worn with such tight jeans.

I have some grey desert boots (from Primark, believe it or not!) that look good with black skinnies. Black derbies also for a slightly smarter look.

Regarding chelsea boots, saw these in my local Topman the other day, might be worth a look.

I also bought black skinnies recently (super skinny ASOS), and actually find them much harder to wear than I thought. I think black jeans can easily create a 'black hole' effect when worn with certain things - e.g I find that wearing them with my burgundy hoodie is too 'contrasty' and makes my bottom half look weird. However with lighter colours (grey, blue, pink etc) they can look really good. e.g. I like wearing them with my grey blazer.

Don't know how skinny your skinnies are, but I've worn my Clarks with Uniqlo's skinny tapered jeans and thought they looked alright.

As for what to wear up top, the outfit you mentioned sounded good. You could try going full on rocker with a black leather jacket? Or go hipster with some kind of classic knitwear, the more grandadesque the better.

i'm interested too in this little discussion. I have some black jeans which are slim (not skinny, don't have the frame for them) and the thing i find best that goes with them are my desert boots. Really don't think my white converse lows go with them, too contrasting against the black. I'm always on the lookout for shoes, so welcome to ideas

My grey suede brogues work really well, as do any black shoes / boots.

I think brown footwear works with black jeans though, especially if the jeans are faded and the shoes a bit battered. A classic indie look.

Agree with everyone that brown and black together is fine in casual setting.

I can see how desert boots wouldn't look right if the jeans are very skinny. You're pretty slim right?

Chelsea boots are a solid indie rocker thing, so just go for it I reckon.

PS post some links to your music Nath!
