is this field jacket any good?

I picked up this field jacket on sale at 50% at H&M. Thought it was too good of a deal. (The waxed cotton is from British Millerain. I will get rid of the orange lining in the hood, cause it's not my cup of tea.)

After purchasing I realized that besides the 100% cotton lining there is a middle layer that isn't mentioned on the tab and that feels like PLASTIC. So I'm kinda worried that this jacket is going to be terrible when cycling or walking cause it's going to turn into a sweat trap.

Any thoughts? Does anybody know what this middle layer could be made of? Should I return it?

    Maybe it's Polyester fabric?

possibly. I don't know much about synthetics and don't know how bad it is to have a "non-breathing layer" in a jacket. Wouldn't want it to have the effect of wearing a plastic bag...

Wore it today and decided to keep it. It does get a bit hot when moving about, but I really like the fit and the quality seems good.
I think it looks better in real life than in the picture, and will look even better after I remove the bright orange lining in the hood.

Since it is 100% cotton, it seems like it'd wrinkle and lose color after you machine wash it. But honestly, a faded look might make this jacket look a bit edgier.

You don't machine wash waxed cotton!

Or even dry clean! Wet sponge is the most you use. Rewax every few years.
