What do you guys think when you see a guy wearing quilted jackets or boat shoes?

I don't think either is a crime; as mentioned in the recent Style Overload article they're basic items that are totally acceptable that have simply come to be unfortunately associated with the high street fashion of "the masses," that tremendous entity constantly subject to unfair generalisation. To consciously avoid something because it's worn by "the masses" is the clearest indication of a "hipster," and while doing it in moderation is dandy and individual, doing it with everything makes you, in your striving to avoid it, a bigger slave to the mainstream than most.
I think some guys look very dandy in quilted jackets, and I think boat shoes are, contrary to their reputation as a basic, hard to get truly right in a look, but like most things they can look very cool if they're worn with style.

The only reason I ask is because neither item is ubiquitous where I live, I just want to know if they were common where you guys live. I have nothing against either item.

Baggy jeans - or anything other related to hip-hop fashion. Nothing personal, but I generally find white guys sporting the ghetto look quite ridiculous.
    Hoodies - see above.
Trainers - except classics such as Adi Superstar.
Gilets and quilted jackets - the ultimate chavvy items in my country.

    Boat shoes
    Gilets
Shawl neck collars (unless its on a Tux)

    Blasphemy!

    For my list:

Boot cut / straight & loose jeans
    Polo shirt under a jumper
    Roll necks

I know a lot of folks really like the shawl neck and it has been popular for several years now, but for some reason its a style that just hasn't clicked with me.

I call blasphemy on your distaste of the roll neck though! (Although I agree with the boot cut.)

I like them, but mainly because I sometimes try to dress like it is the 1920's.

Yeah, they're pretty de rigeur everywhere, although it's certainly seasonal.

I have to say that even though I've never gotten on with shawl collars, I certainly think they can work well; Steve McQueen in a cardigan is a good example.
And Pins... I love roll neck jumpers! Not with you on that
