Better to wear a belt that's maybe too small (38) or maybe too big (40)?

    Hi --

This is probably the silliest question ever. I know the guideline for belts: you buy a size larger than your waist size -- if you have a 38 waist, for example, you buy a size 40 belt. Fair enough.

But as I get older, weird things happen -- not ear nose hair! -- such as my waist has risen and/or butt dropped. So I tend to wear my pants a bit lower because I don't want to be one of those guys who wears his pants hiked up to his chest.

This is what my December has been like.

So I bought a nice black leather belt size 40, following the guideline, but discovered later that when I wear it, the darn things wraps way around almost to my hip bone. I exchanged it for a 38, and it's a close call. Not short, but if I ever miss *one* sit-up, it'll be snug.

Is there a strategy for this? Or do I just roll the dice and pick the one that seems like the closest fit?

    Thanks!

    Michael

Try a different belt. Or keep the 38 and don't miss the sit up! If not 40 is your better bet as long as its not too lose, even if you keep doing those sit ups!

That's great advice, Thearkly -- I can work with that.

    Thanks!

Maybe just try to wear suspenders?
