Sorry to hijack the thread, and sorry if this is a silly question, but is it possible to tailor raw selvedge jeans?? Got a pair of edwins the other day and just want to get them taken in a little.
I did get mine hemmed, not sure if there are any rules here. But I dont like a break in my trousers.

Yea im much the same. Beautiful jeans just a little to wide in the leg so looking to get them tapered so they look a little better with a shoe as apposed to my boots. Just not sure if it will effect the selvedge...?

It won't affect it at all but treat the alteration as permanent, just make sure you're happy with the way the tailor pins it and you'll be fine.

Have you tried Terrace Tailors? It's up above a little Chinese restaurant between West Street and Division Street, or there's on up on the bridge bit of that area that has TK Maxx in (that's where they take everything if you get alterations at Sakis). There is also an alteration place on Ecclesall road just past the roundabout if that helps...

You need someone that knows what they're doing on this traditionally they'll do it from the outside hem which will destroy the selvedge edge so need to do it on the inside to keep this.

So try and make sure they taper from the inside edge and leave the selvedge edge alone? They cost a bomb so bit nervy about taking them in tbh

Havent heard of terrace tailors ill have to check it out, haha yea i went into the place above TK maxx but it just looked a little shoddy in there, not sure i'd trust the bloke with my more expensive items.... This is me purely judging him tho, he might be good. Have you heard any good feedback from either of them??

You could have a chat to the guys in Sakis about what they'd recommend whilst appearing like you might be going to buy something! They offer repairs and alterations on the pairs they sell so could likely recommend someone. Or there are specialists like Denim Doctor or Doctor Denim in Manchester. Who specialises in higher end jean repair, think that's the name for the website at least.

I've used Terrace to repair blown crotches on jeans and he's shortened a suit jacket sleeves and hemmed trousers for me before and always done a fantastic job, he's been doing it all his life I think and only open week day mornings but I would recommend the standard. The one above TK Maxx I've never used but I do know Sakis use him and recommend but that may just be because he's meant to be cheap. The one on Ecclesall road seems a bit more professional but I think they're more seamstresses, I had the waist taken in on some suit trousers there as well as button changes and they did do a very good job.
