    Oman trip

    Hi Guys,

Im off to Oman for work at the end of next week, we have been given a guideline for clothing and i would like to make it look decent.

    Day 1:
    Black trousers
    Black Polo

    Days 2-3 :
    White Polo
    Sand colour shorts
    smart shoes/trainers

    Black tie event:
pretty standard, will be in a black shirt as requested.

    Day 4:
I think I have sorted with some slim Chinos (cream) and a light jumper as we will be on the plane most of the day.

My question is, where can i get some nice shorts?
and what shoes should I pair with them?

Dont want to go crazy with budget as its work gear but quality and value is more important than price.

    Cheers
    W

I lived there for 5 years in the 80's (when Oman was an undevoloped backwater) so my info might be a bit dated, however:

If you are spending much time outside during the day make sure your kit is very lightweight.
In summer it is so hot you can't touch bare metal and you need a cool box to shop for vegetables or they cook themselves.

Presumably your shorts will be for casual wear so tidy sneakers or sandals will be OK if you haven't any loafers etc. Unless you are well tanned already you might stand out with white legs and get burned after an English winter.
The locals almost exclusively wear sandals.

I wore thin cotton overalls or old chinos in the interior (ie the desert) working on the rig and chinos / light cotton shirts in the office. Dress was pretty casual in my line of work (Petroleum Engineer).
    What will you be doing?

Stand by to be amazed by the scenery.

    Thanks Andy,

I will be working as a photographer for an event happening out there for a large firm, they have supplied us with (not the best) Polo shirts and I have soem shorts and chinos to go with them.

I picked most stuff up from ASOS as it was quick and easy.

I will be a very bright shade of red very quickly i guess!

    Cheers
