    40th Birthday in London hotel

    Hey lads (and lasses),

I am off to a 40th birthday party in a posh hotel in St Martin's lane this weekend. It is an evening do, but not too formal and i am planing what to wear...

so i have got the top half nailed (I hope) and pretty classic - Light(ish) blue linen blazer, crisp and white as fk button down oxford and a plain burgundy pocket square. I was planning on going tieless (though i do have a silk black knitted and a silk burgundy knitted sitting in my wardrobe)..

    [IMG][/IMG]

but what should i wear on the bottom? I presume denim or chino's (i dont have any tailored trousers), but what colour? I have black, Dark blue, dark grey and light grey denim; and light blue or burgundy chinos.

    what about the feet?

In trainers i have - white JP's, and Black Saucony.
In Boots i have - black beetle boots, oxblood brogue boots, tan chukkas
In shoes i have - Black brogues (but with clunky runner sole for the rain), dark brown brogues,

so still havn't invested in summer footwear such as loafers or riverias or suede oxfords, and unfortunately no funds to get any before saturday.

    So help me...

From the options there, I'd be inclined to go for a darker bottom half and go with the black jeans, perhaps with the oxblood boots (should go nice with the pocket square?)

Then again, I'm cack with summerwear! :')

so it ok to go black with blue? problem with the brogue boots is that they are a little bit hot (london was sweatlering today) and i would fear for lasses toes on the dance floor later...

The footwear is not very varied so limits options. I wouldnt worry about the black and blue as long as it looks ok.

I would probably go navy chinos or trousers, preferably trousers and the brown brogues with the option. Navy chinos are cheap if you dont own any. about 22 from Asos and you will have in time.

Blazer looks good and fits well.

Thanks - the blazer is from Gap and was a total surprise to me. I went in because i was wanting to chat up one of the girls that worked there. I didn't even know they did things like blazers - it is 50/50 linen/cotton and was only 70...

You should have put a pair of trainers on, that would have pissed the 'Smart Casual' comp
