Red/Burgundy Chinos

Hey guys, I'm new to chinos, and have just bought some red and burgundy chinos, I intend to wear these with white voi velcro trainers, however am a little unsure of what kind of shirt to wear. I have read threads on here about the kind of shirt, but they seem to cover every shirt possible! I picked up a long sleeve shirt (Matalan - Red /Navy Long Sleeve Check Shirt), would this go? Also I have a pair of stone chinos on the way, what kind of shirt would work with it?

For me and my own personal taste, that shirt you've picked out would be a massive clash with the burgundy chino's.

I think any bold coloured chinos should really be the focal point of an outfit, so need to be paired with neutral colours - grey's, whites. navy's in block colours. Like I say, thats my personal taste. That particular shirt would better suit the stone chino's - at which point, the shirt is the focal point of your outfit, not the pants.

Like brown said, keep it simple, in block colours. White would also be a winner. That shirt you highlighted there is a big no-no for those trousers.

As for the rest of the outfit, my choice would be a brown woven belt:

Alot of people are wearing red chinos these days so try not to make the same mistakes they do: no buttoned up denim shirts, looks very cliched. Roll up those sleeves, undo a couple of buttons and roughly tuck in it for a devil-may-care smartness. The boots are great because they are smart but also modern, current and maybe a little bit rugged.

I completely agree with Brown and Nath6644. However, if you're feeling a little more daring, I would also take Nath6644's outfit and use a printed shirt, maybe something like this.



As long as the colors of your shirt are neutral (or at least subtle) and not reddish, it'd look pretty good (I thought I remembered seeing a black and white printed shirt that I thought would go well with red or burgundy chinos). Wearing the shirt you suggested makes the whole outfit too red for me.

Ha, I'm usually the same way, but I saw that when looking for examples for my response and thought it looked pretty slick for the burgundy chinos. It's a River Island shirt and it's selling at Asos, though sadly out of stock right now. Unfortunately, doesn't look like it's available through the main River Island webpage, either.

I think that an accent of burgundy in the top can work with burgundy chinos. That shirt would look pretty good with burgundy chinos and white trainers. Probably not the style of most of the people on this website, but if that's what you like then just go for it! You will know if it works when you try it on. If you are still unsure, take a girl shopping with you.
