The Plague Of The Button Down Collar

Hi Beans!

I am currently undertaking the deceptively difficult task of buying myself a plain, light blue, casual shirt to kick-start my stylish wardrobe. However, every high street store I have pain-stakingly searched has an abundance of button down collars! The long and short of it is that they don't suit me, and I can't seem to find a bog-standard one anywhere! I have tried just unbuttoning the collar, but I think it looks sloppy, which is eons away from the refined look that I hope to achieve.

Can anybody help me out? Where can I find the shirt I want? What is with all the button down collars!?

I don't understand how a button down collar wouldn't suit you. They are all I wear, casually at least, and I have many of them. I recently bought a few from a GAP's "modern oxford" line and was really impressed by the quality for the price.

What is it about the button-down you don't like?

In answer to your question, I'm sure Zara do some nice plain oxfords without the button-down collars.

They just look wierd on me. I can't put my finger on it, and my gf has the same opinion. It might be because I'm pleasently plump, and the button down collar draws attention to my extra chins!

Ah, that's fair enough. I'm a skinny git, so I can't really comment.

Good shout with regards to Uniqlo, and Allsaints will usually stock some nice ones, although they are getting cheeky with the prices this season.
