Sock Color With Wine Cords

Hi guys. I just ordered these wine colored cords from Banana Republic.



I'm excited for them, but I realized I have no idea what socks to wear! I know the standard rule of matching socks to pants, but wine-colored socks seems a bit much. I could do a different shade of red for the socks for a bit of a pop, but pink socks is too much of a statement for me. Do I use the same color but different shade as the shirt? Or do I just go for a neutral like grey or navy? Grey won't look so good with brown shoes, though.

Don't wear pink, would clash like hell. And look majorly oxbridge (not always a terrible thing I suppose).

I personally only wear statement socks with very neutral outfits that need that extra flash of colour. Keep those trousers the centre of your outfit. Black or navy socks would be fine. Maybe grey, chunky flecked socks with brogue boots for that extra heritage vibe?


Nice trousers though. I really need to get on the cords trend, for some reason I'm a bit wary for some reason.

personally I'd just wear whatever took my fancy, you won't generally notice the socks until you sit down or unless the trousers ride up a bit so you might find having something unexpected works better.

Part of me was thinking this as well. I got the trousers long enough that my socks won't show while walking, and if I wear a boot they probably won't show even while sitting.

If I can find brogue boots that are comfortable to wear, I'll probably end up buying them. I just have not had good luck with boots this year (returning a pair today that were not as comfortable as I'd hoped). Good point that the trousers are the centre of the outfit, so neutral will be best. I guess the pink socks would only work with a red shirt and neutral trousers/shoes.
