Uniqlo down jacket

I have to say that this whole "creative layering" fad at the moment doesn't really work for me. Wearing a denim jacket under a coat for example; to me it just looks like you don't have the correct item to wear under your coat.

It looks a bit sloppy to me. Does anyone else feel that way?

Perhaps that is the idea, but from what I've seen it rarely comes across that way. A lot of the shots on blogs and such look so contrived that it's hard to take it as an effortless look.

Just my opinion though - I'm sure some people can pull it off. Probably helps if you are attending a fashion week or something.
