Colour Transfer from Indigo Jeans

I have some skinny fit Indigo Jeans from Topman.

When I wear them, the colour seems to transfer everywhere - they coloured my mother in law's sofa over Christmas just from me sitting on it for a few hours; white boxers worn underneath end up looking a shade of blue and I have even seen a faint shade of blue on my hands when wearing them.

Is this normal for coloured jeans or perhaps symptomatic of cheap jeans??

Should I expect this not to occur if investing in better denim?

It's not uncommon, especially in cheaper denim. Higher quality brands is no guarantee, though making it less likely. The only solution I know is to wash them a couple of times. Here's where higher quality matters, as cheaper jeans lose a lot of colour when washed, while quality dyed denim will have a deeper set colour that can stand washing.

soak them in vinegar before you wash them, it works as a colour stabiliser. The vinegar comes out after one wash.

Take them back to Topman. I had an All Saints blazer that did exactly the same thing. I took it into a shop, the assistant rubbed his hands down the blazer to check that I wasn't joking (which I wasn't). He then found another one in the back, repeated the process, then gave me a full refund because the item was completely flawed.

You are well within your rights to get your money back.

The problem is I bought them last October, have washed them once already and dont have a receipt.

You think they'd still refund or more than likely an exchange?

Hmmmm it is a fair amount of time.

Take them into a store and ask. It's definitely worth asking. The fact is, you have only washed them once, and any logical human being would do this to see if the dye stopped transferring. The fact that it still does represents a design flaw.

Most denim comes with a label to warn against this stuff. I'd imagine these jeans are no different.

Denim does transfer colour, it's a fact. I think you'd be lucky to get any sympathy from Topman but it's worth a go.
